The Arts and Entertainment Committee of the Yale Alumni Association of Metropolitan New York (YAAMNY), in collaboration with the Peri Metropolis Walk and Talk New York, hosts an afternoon of contemporary landscape architecture on Sunday, November 15, 2009 from 1 to 3:30 pm. The walking tour will meet at Battery Park Bosque (just south of Castle Clinton), right in front of Picnick food kiosk. Teresa Jan '04, registered architect and urban design faculty at NYIT and co-founder of Peri Metropolis, will guide alumni through contemporary urban park designs along the lower Hudson waterfront, such as Battery Park Bosque (2005), Irish Hunger Memorial (2002), Teardrop Parks (2004), and The High Line (2009). The tour will trace the evolution of park design and also highlight New York' s desire and recent efforts to reclaim the waterfront and revitalize the area through effective micro ecosystems. Immediately after the tour, Laura Starr, landscape architects of Battery Park Bosque and principal of Starrwhitehouse Architects, and Juergen Rheim FAIA, co-founder of 1100 Architect and architect in charge of Irish Hunger Memorial, are happy to meet with Yale participants at the restaurant The Park (118 10th Ave.) for further discussion. All are welcome, including friends and family. Please bring a metro-card for a bus ride from North Battery Park to the High Line. Pre-registration is required. Due to the intimate experience of having a personalized walking tour and discussion, the tour is limited to 10 people. Tickets are $25 before November 12, $30 after.
