New York Philomusicas last concert of 2009 will take place on Thursday, December 10, at 8:00 p.m. at the Broadway Presbyterian Church, Broadway at 114th Street, in Manhattan. The program will feature: Ernst von Dohnanyis Serenade, Op. 10, for violin, viola & cello Wolfgang Amadeus Mozarts Divertimento in E-flat, K. 563, for violin, viola & cello Artists: Yonah Zur, violin; Junah Chung, viola; Gerald Appleman, cello Artistic Director A. Robert Johnson will host a free Meet-the-Artists interview preceding the concert at 7:30 p.m. A reception for audience and musicians will follow the performance. In this concert New York Philomusica juxtaposes two great works for string trio: the most popular work of an obscure composer and the obscure masterpiece of a famous one. Dohnanyis Serenade is considered by many musicians to be his finest work among numerous great compositions. This is its first performance by New York Philomusica. Mozart's singularly beautiful trio is a splendid testament to the generosity of the benefactor for whom it was written. It also has a particular significance to the ensemble, which in 1975 was the first group ever to record the entire Mozart Divertimento catalogue, in which this piece belongs. Mozart has been a cornerstone of the New York Philomusicas programming since its inception in 1971, and this concert will highlight once again how two composers working in two very different styles and centuries can touch an audience in much the same heartfelt way. Additional Info/Contact: Call New York Philomusica at (212) 580-9933, email us at This email address is hidden from email harvesters via JavaScript , or visit www.nyphilomusica.org |
