The Wednesday Lunchtime Summer Soup Kitchen is looking to recruit two project co-coordinators. The Wednesday Lunchtime Summer Soup Kitchen was started last summer. During the normal school year, the Saint Thomas More center provides lunch to the homeless and those in need on Wednesdays, but this much-appreciated service closes for the summer. However, the Wednesday Summer Soup Kitchen project team plans to continue to bring back Wednesday summer lunch for the homeless this year.
The project consists of two components: a) bag Lunch making on Tuesday afternoons (approx 5.15-6.30) and b) serving these lunches to the homeless on the New Haven Green on Wednesday afternoons (approximately 12.30-1.30). Yale summer session students and other interested individuals will assist with both of these efforts, and those involved last summer found it to be an engaging and exciting experience.
Currently, we are looking for one Yale student to lead the bag lunch making, and another to lead the sandwich distribution. Both of these positions are a great opportunity to engage with others and to lead. You will be working with the project director (Julia Knight, DC'11). The summer soup kitchen project will involve little time commitment on your part, and is very compatible with whatever else you may be doing (job, internship, classes, lab, etc.)
If...
-you think that this project interests you
-you will be in New Haven this summer from about June 1 to August 7 (alternatively, if you are here for just one summer session and are interested, let me know--it may be possible to work something out)
-you are organized and responsible
Please contact Julia Knight (
