Interested in city politics? Want to get more involved? Join New Haven Action and Ward 1 Alderman Mike Jones for the launch of New Haven’s first Legislative Aide program!
As a legislative aide, students will be paired with a New Haven alder or legislative committee to assist them in their political responsibilities, conduct policy research, and coordinated community service activities. Working closely with city officials, legislative aides will gain access to community and ward committee meetings, getting a comprehensive inside look into the inner workings of City Hall. This is not an administrative post designed to have aides to sort mail and answer telephones. Instead, legislative aides will be entrusted with major legislative projects, having the opportunity to enact substantive change in their wards.
Legislative aides will be expected to work five to ten hours per week during the academic year, and will collect a $200 stipend upon the satisfactory completion of their responsibilities each semester.
