State of the Planet is a biennial conference, hosted by the Earth Institute, Columbia University in partnership with The Economist and Ericsson, will take place on March 25, 2010 and will focus on four themes: climate change, poverty, economic recovery and international systems. Among others, the discussion will be led by prominent figures like Mexican President Felipe Calderon, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, and Earth Institute Director Jeffrey D. Sachs. For the first time, State of the Planet will be a truly international event featuring simultaneous, interactive sessions at five global event sites (Beijing, Delhi, London, Nairobi, New York) and will be webcast live to an international audience. Already, organizations at over 100 universities around the globe are participating by hosting webcast viewings and blogging.
