New Haven / Le�n Sister City Project seeks Interns for our community theater programs in New Haven, Connecticut and Le�n, Nicaragua.

About New Haven / Le�n Sister City Project

NH/LSCP, founded in 1984, fosters a partnership between the communities of Greater New Haven, Connecticut and Le�n, Nicaragua.� Our mission is to promote social justice. We work to form fair and respectful relationships between the people of our two cities. Through delegations and other exchanges, we strive to understand and celebrate our respective cultures. In Le�n, we engage in sustainable economic, human, and community development projects. In New Haven, we educate our neighbors about Nicaragua and about local and global effects of policies of the U.S. government and international economic institutions.

About the NH/LSCP Community Theater Project

This emerging project involves residents of both New Haven and Le�n in creating and presenting plays, raps, street theater, and more.� In the process, residents of both communities will identify issues of concern in both communities and generate ideas about actions that we can take to address them together.� The project's facilitators include playwrights and creative arts therapists with significant experience doing community-based artwork in both countries.

During Spring / Summer 2011, the Project will:

• Host interactive Theater of the Oppressed workshops for New Haven and Le�n residents
• Present the bilingual play Peasant from El Salvador in New Haven and Le�n.� The play tells the story of a farmer dealing with many contemporary Latin American/U.S. issues roots of migration, global economic changes, family, faith and commitment.
• Develop and present an original hip hop performance "Dust" about the struggles of Nicaraguan sugar cane workers

Intern Description

Interns can work in collaboration with the program facilitators and contribute in a variety of ways during the semester and/or summer.� Bilingual (Spanish/English) students, theater students, and Latin American Studies students are encouraged to apply.
