(1) Yale Latino Alumni Association launches the Home Visits Programto enroll higher numbers of Latinos. Alumni volunteers needed.

The Yale Latino Alumni Association is pleased to announce the formal launch of the Home Visits Program, in collaboration with La Casa Cultural Julia de Burgos (the Latino Cultural Center at Yale) and the support of the Yale Office of Undergraduate Admissions. This collective effort is intended to increase the yield of Latino students that will enroll in the Class of 2015. The Home Visits Program will be piloted in three primary territories: Los Angeles, Chicago and the five boroughs of New York City. These cities represent not only the highest concentrated number of Latino alumni, but historically, have also generated the highest number of Latino applicants and admitted students to Yale annually.

The history of Yale Latino alumni making home visits has been both long-existing and life altering. Though never a formal process, for many years Latino alumni have recruited in high schools and maintained close communication with Latino applicants and their families along the way. The communication with Latino alumni has been pivotal to Latino undergraduates ultimately choosing Yale. The Home Visit Program has been crafted and is driven by many of these experiences; stories much like our own and those of current students.

We need your help. As a volunteer, you will be trained and matched with admitted student(s) from your city, high school, and/or with similar professional aspirations to yours. The success of this program will not only increase the number of enrolled students beyond the usual percentages to this incoming class, but it will also propel the programs expansion into other important cities and territories such as San Diego, San Antonio, El Paso, Miami, Puerto Rico, among others.

YLAA Regional Coordinators, Yale Latino alumni volunteers themselves, are currently recruiting, training and will be matching alumni volunteers with admitted students; be it by geographic location, attended high school, course of study/major, aspired profession, family national origin, and/or other significant matching characteristics. Training sessions are coming soon in March, followed by Home Visits in April.
