Join us for a fascinating evening with Philip Howard '70, vice chairman of law firm Covington & Burling to discuss the re-release of his best-seller, The Death of Common Sense: How Law is Suffocating America. (Random House May 2011). Hear about Howard's "Start Over" campaign launched this month, which aims to influence the 2012 election by organizing public support for structural overhaul of government and law, on the premise that only people, not rules, make things happen. Howard is founder and chair of Common Good , a non-profit bi-partisan legal reform coalition with the mission of rebuilding reliable legal structures that will permit Americans to use their common sense. Common Good's advisory board includes Howard Baker, Bill Bradley, George McGovern, Jeb Bush, Robert Kagan and Tom Kean among others. Please note that this is not a Republican agenda of tort reform, but a nuanced, thoughtful, bi-partisan initiative to bring reliability and balance to law that will allow Americans to make choices for the common good. Enjoy delicious hors doeurvres, open bar and gorgeous sunset views over the Hudson in this magnificent Renzo Piano designed atelier on the 43rd floor of the New York Times building. This event is open to the public and all are welcome. Please feel free to forward to friends and colleagues. Space is limited, and this event will sell out, so be sure and get your tickets now!
All proceeds from this event will go to Common Good.
